A Thyroid test in the body includes T4, T3, and TSH. Circulating in the blood, T4 and T3 are bound and link to protein molecules. The free T4 and free T3 defines the bodys true thyroid levels.. Thyroid levels represent active hormone present to act with receptors of cells in ones body.
In hypothyroidism, blood thyroid levels are low.. TSH thyroid levels are increased when the pituitary gland produces and releases more TSH than is needed. A Thyroid test is performed when blood TSH thyroid levels are low, often kept down to levlels below 0.01 mIU per L, hyperthyroidism occurs. In the beginning stages of dysfunctional thyroid or medicine changes, thyroid level may appear normal in patients. Due to this, an FT3 and FT4 thyroid level test needs to be performed.
T3 is only produced in small amounts by the thyroid gland. The peripheral tissue of the liver manufactures T3 by the conversion of T4 to T3.
