I recently went walking in Tenerife along the stunning shorelines and between the gorgeous valleys. Staying in a beautiful hotel that was a thoughtfully rebuilt sixteenth century mansion that just oozed romance and tales untold in the village of Garachico, which with its empiric structures with thier oak beams in great states lets you go back in history to a less busy times and relax. Just behind and above the place I was staying was an old track which led up over the mountain to a village named Bodega. VillagersThe villagers in Bodega explained that the trail was made by the Spanish Conquerors to join the two villages together sometime in the 16th Century.
Travelling over the mountain was amazing with stretched out vista’s showing through the Laurel and Myrtle paths. The fragrances given off by the nearby flora was amazing, with species such as Lavender and marguerites appearing as you were walking past. Bodega is a beautiful village with glorious views over the ocean and it was lovely to spend some time in meditation before walking back to where we were staying to lay back and read, and enjoy a glass of wine, the meals in the hotel reminded me of some of the finest Manchester restaurants of my home town. The following day I walked up the western massif of Santiago de Teide and travelled the length of a long ridge trail to a beautiful small area that provided you vistas over the sea, places like it are really what attracts you to go Tenerife.
Their appeared to be loads of gorgeous birds flying about singing their melodies. A few of the individuals I was travelling with mentioned the varieties were Plain swifts, Canary, Pipit and Macaronesia. A stop in at the Estate of La Baranda, got a bit of wine tasting into the blend, which was brilliant as the estate, has been around from the 17th century. The estate let me try various specialist Tenerife wines and explained to me the story of the estate and its wine creating customs. I really didn’t want to come home at the end of my Tenerife stay but would recommend it to anyone that enjoys walking. Walking in Tenerife is a great way of relaxing and letting yourself un wind, I found that unlike a lot of holidays I have been on I came away with my batteries recharged.
